10 Fun and Fabulous Facts About Penguins

In honor of World Penguin Day today, April 25, here are some facts about penguins!

  1. penguin christmasThere are 17 species of penguins, and they all live in the Southern Hemisphere. They don’t help Santa at the North Pole!
  2. Penguins’ coloring is the perfect camouflage. When they’re seen from above, the black on their backs helps them blend in with the darker ocean depths; and when they’re seen from below, their white stomachs help hide them against the lighter sky.

The world was shocked and saddened Tuesday at the passing of Carrie Fisher, the iconic actress who portrayed Princess Leia in the Star Wars film series.

Mrs. Fisher was not only a talented actress who was loved the world over for that role as the smart, feisty, brave princess and general, but she was also a popular speaker and writer who brought attention to struggles with mental issues.

Below you can watch clips from the original auditions of Mrs. Fisher and her co-stars, Mark Hamill (who played her brother the Jedi hero Luke), and Harrison Ford (who played the cocky smuggler pilot and Leia’s eventual husband, Han Solo) for their eventual roles in the movies.
