The oil spill that originated in Santa Barbara has made its way to the coastlines of Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo Beach. Los Angeles County lifeguard officials have closed the beaches listed above to the public as several agencies worked to determine the source of the petroleum oil globs that has washed ashore. In total, the oil globs have impacted a 6.8-mile stretch of coastlines.
According to the Manhattan Beach Mayor, Wayne Powell, “They don’t even know the cause, so everything is precautionary at this point.” Agencies have collected samples of the product and are investigating the source. The U.S. Coast Guard is also working to help clean up the oil globs.
