Before Refrigerators Were Invented

Keeping your meats, cheese, and any food that can spoil was near to impossible to have longer that a week. Methods like “salting” meat, putting them in jars, or burying any type of food away from bacteria was often time pointless.

Then, an advancement came in, the ice-box was put into place. It was the way to save money and keep foods longer. Rather than having your food go to spoil, a box with a chunk of ice was placed on top along with the food in compartments that benefited from the cold air coming from the cold. Pretty simple, but it was effective at the time.
